Introduction to Welding

Introduction to Welding was developed to introduce a more skilled entry-level worker into the rapidly growing metal working manufacturing, fabrication and construction industries.


In-Person/Full-time, 3/29/22 – 6/9/22, Tuesday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm


In-Person/Part-time, 7/25/22 – 11/17/22, Tues-Thursday, 4:00pm-8:00pm, and Sat. 6:00am-2:30pm


In-Person/Full-time, 8/16/22 – 10/24/22, Tuesday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm

The Introduction to Welding-SMAW/GMAW combines hands-on learning of such skills as Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Oxyfuel Cutting and other commonly used cutting methods. Theoretical training in such topics as Welding and Shop Safety, Basic Welding Principles, Weld Quality and Shop math and more.

Entry-Level Welders, Fabricators and Helpers job duties:

  • Assist with part fit-up
  • Tack welding
  • Welding of non-critical parts and connections
  • Material cutting
  • Grinding and trimming
  • Clamping of parts
  • Removing defective welds
  • Primer and painting
  • Regular clean-up of work area
  • Safety inspections of tools and equipment
Eligible Certifications:
  • Certificate of Completion-Chaffey College
  • Cal-OSHA 10 General Industry
  • Amatrol Certificate
  • American Welding Society (AWS): SMAW D1.1 Structural Welding Code-Steel and/or GMAW D1.3 Structural Welding Code-Sheet Steel

How Much Can You Make In Welding?
  • Entry-Level $17-$21
  • 1 – 5 years of experience $21-$25
  • 5 – 10 years of experience $25-$45
  • Independent Owner/Operators of Welding Rigs $100-$200
