Computer Skills for the Workplace

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION


The Computer Skills for the Workplace training program is designed to prepare you to work in an office setting in any industry by providing training in computer literacy, keyboarding to increase speed and accuracy, business English, business math, telephone techniques/etiquette, introduction to standard office equipment, ethics, Microsoft Office 2016 computer programs including word, excel, powerpoint, and outlook. Cloud-based programs such as Google drive: docs, sheets and slides.

Office Assistants typically do the following:

  • Answer, screen, forward telephone calls
  • Use office equipment, such as fax machines, photocopiers, videoconferencing, and other office equipment
  • Use computers for spreadsheets, word processing, database management, and other office applications
  • Route and distribute incoming and outgoing mail and email
  • Schedule appointments
  • Set up and maintain files
  • Correct spelling and grammar to ensure accuracy
  • Complete forms in accordance with company procedures
  • Greet walk-in customers and help to monitor visitors’ access to the office
  • Within their daily routine, office staff may be required to bend, lift, stand, and walk
